Announcement follows

In its initial phase, the Solander Program will be primarily (although not exclusively) directed towards younger scientists at the Honours (Examensarbetare), Masters, Doctoral, Post-doctoral and Research Fellow levels. The program recognises that younger scientists are at the cutting-face of research, are more open to new ideas, have greater mobility and will gain most from the establishment of international contacts. They are also less likely to possess their own funds.

As the wealth of the program grows, greater support for senior scientists will also be available.

In its initial phase, the Solander Program will offer scholarships to enable younger scientists to:

  • Undertake shorter-term (1–12 month) collaborative research projects, taking advantage of the host university's wealth of techniques, highly specialised (and often unique) apparatus, to visit advanced field stations in regions of outstanding scientific interest, or to discuss their ideas with world authorities in their field.
  • Undertake a short and intensive course related to their research. Lund offers a very large number of high-quality specialised postgraduate courses in English across a variety of disciplines. These typically run for two or three weeks full-time, may be theoretical in nature, or involve learning a specific technique. Excellent courses are also available in the participating Australasian universities (for example, the UpSkills Program in Melbourne). Successful applicants will be required to stay an extra two weeks as the guest of a host department.

Available Scholarships
Solander Travel Grants

  • These will be the program's standard travel grants, and are intended for shorter visits of one to six months. Approximately eight grants of up to A$4,000 (or 22,000 SEK) will be awarded annually at each university.

Solander Fellowships

  • These prestigious prizes of A$10,000 (55,000 SEK) each, will be awarded to an outstanding young scientist (the Solander Fellow) to travel to a participating institution for a period of up to one year. The prize is intended to substantially offset the costs of travel and accommodation during the Fellow's tenure. One Solander Fellowship will be awarded annually at each university.
